Operation Rice BowlCRS Rice Bowl

Operation Rice Bowl is a Lenten “pray, fast, learn, donate” program which is active in parishes and schools in the Archdiocese, as well as the chancery. It makes the connection between love of God and love of neighbor on a global basis and assists people with basic necessities, education, self-sufficiency and health challenges in 100 countries, while educating parishioners on the reality of life for our brothers and sisters around the globe.

How can I participate in Operation Rice Bowl?

Twenty-five percent of our gifts remain here in our archdiocese to help meet the needs of refugees. In 2009 alone, Catholic Charities Atlanta’s Refugee Resettlement Services helped over 230 families who suffered religious and political persecution in their home country begin a new life. Seventy-five percent of our gifts will go to CRS for international projects such as helping farmers in Bolivia receive training to improve crop yields, helping children in Afghanistan gain more opportunities for quality education, and helping communities in Ethiopia access reliable water sources even during times of drought.

Catholics Confront Global PovertyCatholics Confront Global Poverty

The message of the Church is clear: we are called to help our brothers and sisters in need. Catholics Confront Global Poverty is an initiative between USCCB and CRS that calls on Catholics to confront
global poverty by defending the life and dignity of people living in poverty throughout the world, and to urge our nation to act in response to the many faces of poverty through advocacy and action.
