Three billion people around the world live in poverty and face hunger on a daily basis. The Catechism reminds us that “the Eucharist commits us to the poor” (ccc 1397), so this year we will kick off the Archdiocese of Atlanta’s Eucharistic Congress with a Friday morning meal packing event – STARVE WARS!
We are seeking 650 volunteers of all ages to help pack 100,000 meals to go to the impoverished developing country of Burkina Faso in Africa. The event will take place Friday, June 1st at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park. There will be two sessions, 9:00-10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., both taking place in Hall A of the Convention Center. The organizers are encouraging ordained clergy and clergy in formation to join us for either or both sessions.
In order to be more inclusive, the both sessions will have Spanish interpreters and the second session will be set up to accommodate those living with disabilities. Space is limited and registration is required to participate.
STARVE WARS! is a collaborative effort between the Archdiocese of Atlanta’s Justice and Peace Ministries, Catholic Relief Services, Helping Hands and the people of the Archdiocese of Atlanta.
