HUNGER reigns. Three billion people around the world live in poverty and face hunger on a daily basis.
But the fight continues. The ARCHDIOCESE OF ATLANTA, CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES, and our band of volunteers stand against our twin foes of HUNGER and POVERTY, certain that our efforts can be a spark of hope for developing nations.
We need your help to mount a daring defense of human life and dignity…
We are seeking 650 volunteers of all ages to help pack 100,000 meals to go to the impoverished developing country of Burkina Faso in Africa. The event will take place Friday, June 21st at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park. There will be two sessions, 9:00-10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., both taking place in Hall A of the Convention Center. The organizers are encouraging ordained clergy and clergy in formation to join us for either or both sessions.
Recognizing that our military service members know intimately that call to action in service to others, we invite active and veteran members of all military branches to join us for our 9:00 a.m. meal packing session. Bishop Bernard Shlesinger, III, an Air Force veteran himself, will be present and will offer our opening prayer.
In order to be more inclusive, both sessions will have Spanish interpreters and the second session will be set up to accommodate those living with disabilities. Space is limited and registration is required to participate.
STARVE WARS! is a collaborative effort between the Archdiocese of Atlanta’s Justice and Peace Ministries, Catholic Relief Services, Helping Hands and the people of the Archdiocese of Atlanta.
