Prison Ministry
The mission of Prison Ministry is to support parish-based prison ministries that provide a community of support for people who are incarcerated, their families and all those who are harmed by crime. Through consistent presence, spiritual guidance and sacraments, clergy and lay volunteers ensure that people who are incarcerated remain active participants in the community of faith.
If you would like to serve as a volunteer, please contact Imelda Richárd, coordinator of Prison Ministry, at 404-920-7350 or irichard@archatl.com. You will be guided through the badging and training process and receive resources.
Catholic Campaign for Human Development
Established by the U.S. Conference of Bishops in 1969, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is the Catholic Church’s domestic, anti-poverty social justice program. Its mission is to address the root cause of poverty in America through the promotion and support of community-controlled, self-help organizations and transformative education.
The CCHD Advisory Committee works with the CCHD diocesan director to consider grant applications, identify local community organizations that may benefit from a CCHD grant and advise on communication strategies to best promote and educate on the work of CCHD in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. It is made up of both clergy and laity that strive to represent the full diversity of this local church.
Review the Community Grants section to learn more about the application process.
Second Collection
The national Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) second collection occurs annually in November and coincides with the World Day of the Poor. It is the only source of funding for CCHD grant and education programs, both nationally and locally. 25% of the collection funds parish and community grants within the Archdiocese of Atlanta.
