Back to Seminarians

Chrystian Bis

Background

I was born in Fr. Stewart to Polish parents. Later my family moved to Gainesville, which is where I spent most of my life, up until going to seminary. I grew up learning the faith in the Polish tradition. My home parishes were St. Michael’s and then Prince of Peace. I went to the University of North Georgia and graduated with a degree in Finance.

Hobbies and Interests

When I’m not reading, I enjoy playing ping pong and volleyball. I’m also in to board games, cars, and the German soccer team Bayern Munich.

Favorite Scripture

Psalm 88

Favorite Saint

Saint Rita of Cascia. I found a prayer card of her by chance in a stressful time, and I still hold on to it to this day. Whenever I’m sure something seems impossible, I pray the prayer on the card.

Vocation Story

I stewed on it for years in private adoration and reading. I decided by the end of college to try turning my life completely in the pursuit of this discernment through joining the seminarian program in Atlanta. I haven’t looked back since.

Seminary Experience

I study a lot of philosophy! But there’s also plenty of prayers, both in community, small groups, and alone. When I’m not doing that, I’m playing sports or enjoying fraternity with my brothers at the seminary.

What I am looking forward to when I become a Priest.

The faith is growing rapidly in Georgia, being able to be part of supporting that growth is exciting!

Advice for other Discerning the Priesthood.

There’s only so much discernment you can do alone, and it will never resolve itself satisfactorily on your own. Do not feel nervous about reaching out to a priest as soon as you can.
