Pope Leo XIV
Pope Leo XIV, the 267th Bishop of Rome, was elected on May 8, 2025. He is the first pope to have been born in the United States, the first from the Order of St. Augustine and the second pope – after Pope Francis – from the Americas.
Prior to his election, he served as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and spent many years as a missionary in Peru, later heading the Augustinians for two consecutive terms. His papacy emphasizes various themes, including unity, immigration and artificial intelligence.
