A Synodal Church

The synod is a call to pray, listen and discern together what the Holy Spirit is saying to the church today – for the sake of the church’s evangelizing mission.  

In 2021, Pope Francis opened a multi-year synodal process to renew our common journey forward. This began the 2021-2024 synod, “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission.”

Next Steps

The Synod has entered the implementation phase that will end with an Ecclesial Assembly at the Vatican in October 2028. The General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops published two documents to guide our next steps: 

The archdiocesan bishops and synod team continue to meet to discern how to best support what next steps the Holy Spirit may be calling for the church in north and central Georgia.
