We are answering the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor!

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta is taking urgent and impactful action on the Pope’s plea to “cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents.”

Our Laudato Si’ initiative was created in 2020, to build greater environmental solidarity among North Georgia Catholics, weaving together social, environmental, and economic justice into our way of life.

The Laudato Si’ Action Plan is an extensive resource base and action guide for parishes, schools, families and individuals seeking to make an impact. It provides simple, moderate and advanced actions, organized into ten topics.

About Laudato Si’

On Care for Our Common Home (Laudato Si’) is the appeal from Pope Francis addressed to “every person living on this planet” for an inclusive dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet. Pope Francis calls the Church and the world to acknowledge the urgency of our environmental challenges and to join him in embarking on a new path. This encyclical is written with both hope and resolve, looking to our common future with candor and humility.

In 2023, an additional letter was released, expressing further urgency and pace of environmental action needed by the church. Laudato Deum states “This is a global social issue and one intimately related to the dignity of human life.” The pope specifically points out the United States, and urges us to make cultural changes to reduce our carbon footprint. This is not just a matter of the church, but it is our duty as Catholics, to implement these changes wherever we are.

From energy, water and waste audits to solar projects, from zero waste events to environmental advocacy, we are taking action as parish communities and passionate individuals and embarking on a new path toward a more sustainable future.
