From Gregg v. Georgia to the Execution of  Troy Davis 

Thirty-five years ago, a man named Troy Davis was sentenced to death for the 1989 murder of Savannah police offer Mark MacPhail. Despite having no physical evidence, contradictory eyewitness testimony and evidence of police coercion, Georgia killed Troy by lethal injection on September 21, 2011. 

To honor Troy’s life and the tragedy of his death, the Georgia Catholic Conference and Georgians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty will co-host What Georgia Gave America: From Gregg v. Georgia to the Execution of Troy Davis on Monday, September 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Chancery of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. 

A distinguished panel of speakers will discuss the legal, cultural and religious impact of the Gregg v. Georgia decision, and how it helped to create the circumstances for the wrongful execution of Troy Davis.
