The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2025 offers an inspiring opportunity for churches and Christian communities to come together in shared prayer for the unity of Christ’s body.

This year’s theme, drawn from John 11:17-27, focuses on Jesus’ words to Martha, “Do you believe this?” (v. 26). These powerful reflections invite Christians to deepen their faith and celebrate the unity found in Christ. The theme is especially significant as 2025 marks the 1,700th anniversary of the first Ecumenical Council held in Nicaea in 325 AD, a cornerstone event that shaped the shared faith of Christians through the Nicene Creed.

Traditionally observed from January 18-25 in the northern hemisphere, and often around Pentecost in the southern hemisphere, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity welcomes flexibility. Communities are encouraged to use these materials year-round to express the communion already achieved and to pray for the full unity Christ desires for His church.

The resources are jointly published by the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and the World Council of Churches and can be translated or contextualized for local use. The materials include prayers, reflections and tools for engaging congregations and fostering ecumenical relationships.

Given the significance of 2025 as a Jubilee Year of Hope and the 1,700th anniversary of the first Ecumenical Council held in Nicaea, there will be a special Ecumenical Service around Pentecost. Details of this event will be communicated in due course.
