In his 2025 World Day of Peace message, Pope Francis has once again called for the global abolition of the death penalty. As he writes, “This penalty not only compromises the inviolability of life but eliminates every human hope of forgiveness and rehabilitation.”
Here in Georgia, not only do we have an active death penalty statute, but our state continues—in spite of the Supreme Court decision prohibiting it—to execute people with intellectual disabilities.
The Archdiocese of Atlanta will be joining dozens of other faith communities and organizations at the Georgia State Capitol on Wednesday, February 12, for Ring Around the Capitol, an advocacy day to end the death penalty for people with intellectual disabilities in Georgia.
Please plan to join us in protecting the life and dignity of some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
