Catholic Relief Services is the international relief agency of the Catholic Church providing humanitarian relief and development assistance in more than 100 countries. With a focus on programs that inform and engage Catholics about poverty and injustice overseas, CRS provides opportunities to build a more just world. Programs are available to parishes, schools and/or individuals.

Lead the Way

Our faith calls us to believe. To serve. To lead. At this pivotal time when COVID-19 is impacting health, societies and economies around the globe, we can come together as missionary disciples to make a difference.

Join a powerful movement of advocacy and action to transform our world. Leading the way begins now. We come together as a community and as individuals to pray, learn and take meaningful action to help those who will suffer the most from this global pandemic: migrants and refugees, communities that lack access to enough food and nutrition and people living in poverty.

CRS Rice Bowl

Rice Bowl is a Lenten “pray, fast, learn, donate” program which is active in parishes and schools in the Archdiocese, as well as the chancery. It makes the connection between love of God and love of neighbor on a global basis and assists people with basic necessities, education, self-sufficiency and health challenges in 100 countries, while educating parishioners on the reality of life for our brothers and sisters around the globe.

Twenty-five percent of our gifts remain here in our Archdiocese to help meet the needs of refugees. In 2009 alone, Catholic Charities Atlanta’s Refugee Resettlement Services helped over 230 families who suffered religious and political persecution in their home country begin a new life. Seventy-five percent of our gifts will go to CRS for international projects such as helping farmers in Bolivia receive training to improve crop yields, helping children in Afghanistan gain more opportunities for quality education, and helping communities in Ethiopia access reliable water sources even during times of drought.

CRS Rice Bowl Grants

CRS Rice Bowl Grants are now available for parishes and schools. These grants provide funding for projects and programs that educate on, raise awareness of, and promote advocacy for particular poverty issues. These programs should address issues concerning food security, food waste, and/or community gardens.

Those parishes and schools currently participating in CRS Rice Bowl will be given preference. However, all are invited and encouraged to apply for grants.

CRS Chapters and Clubs

Catholic Relief Services Chapters and Clubs are communities of people transforming the world. As part of a movement across the United States, thousands are taking meaningful action through CRS campaigns to eradicate global poverty and injustice. Adults and university and high school students take our campaign work further by engaging their communities in advocacy and community giving to make a difference.

All parish and school communities in the Archdiocese of Atlanta are invited to take part in the CRS Chapter/Club program. If you are interested in engaging your community more deeply in the work of CRS, please contact Jayna Hoffacker.

Emergency Response and Recovery

CRS’ vision is to promote social justice, solidarity and compassion through timely emergency and recovery actions that address the needs of the most vulnerable. They take a comprehensive approach to international disaster relief. As experienced first responders, CRS provides lifesaving help to get survivors back on their feet. Then they help people obtain the tools and skills they need to manage their own recovery. CRS’ projects build on local systems to ensure long-term success.
