In virtue of their baptism, all the members of the People of God have become missionary disciples (cf. Mt 28:19)”

To do their part, adult Catholics must be mature in faith and well equipped to share the Gospel, promoting it in every family circle, in every church gathering, in every place of work, and in every public forum. They must be women and men of prayer whose faith is alive and vital, grounded in a deep commitment to the person and message of Jesus.” (USCCB, Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us: A Pastoral Plan for Adult Faith Formation, no. 2)

Evangelization and catechesis continue throughout our lives in a process of ongoing renewal and conversion. “Such lifelong formation is always needed and must be a priority in the Church’s catechetical ministry; moreover, it must ‘be considered the chief form of catechesis…’” (Our Hearts Were Burning, no. 13). In supporting the area of Adult Discipleship, OED supports parishes and campus ministries in their work to fulfill the evangelizing mission of the Church, calling, forming, and accompanying adults as missionary disciples who encounter Jesus Christ, grow in knowledge of His teaching, and share Him with others. Church ministries should encourage all adults and families along a path of discipleship, according to the circumstances of each person and family and the context of each parish and ministry setting.
