Family Discipleship

Understanding that the family is “the first and vital cell of society” (Second Vatican Council Apostolicam Actuositatem, no. 11) and that  “the ministry of evangelization carried out by Christian parents is original and irreplaceable” (Familiaris Consortio, no. 53), OED strives to keep the family at the center of its efforts to support evangelization and the work of ministering to and helping establish strong, healthy, and thriving domestic churches in our communities. OED supports parishes in their mission to foster renewal in family life and to assist and accompany parents in their role as primary evangelizers and catechists of their children.  In this way, parishes assist in planting domestic churches in their communities, which in turn evangelize the whole community.
